Business Partner with Charlie Wilson of Charlie Wilson’s War 1963

I was a business partner with Charlie Wilson of Charlie Wilson’s War in 1963. Charlie Wilson was a famous Congressman from east Texas, Diboll Texas

So that’s where our partnership began and that’s where my friendship with him began. But Charlie Wilson (Charlie Wilson’s War) was a different kind of Congressman, for example when you went to his office in Washington D.C.

Charlie Wilson

Member of the U.S. House of Representatives
from Texas’s 2nd district

It looked like the playboy mansion, by that I mean it was full of good looking voluptuous girls. And lots of lots of good looking voluptuous girls and Charlie was known for being a wonderful swinging bachelor. But Charlie Wilson’s War the book is about him, what he did in Afghanistan in 1980. I believe it was, Russia invaded Afghanistan and occupied the entire country, so Charlie Wilson was persuaded by a Houstonian girl, a friend of mine named Joanne Herring.

Joanne King Herring and Joanne was Honorary Houston Council for Pakistan and Afghanistan. So, Joanne in her charming way talked Charlie Wilson into going to the Appropriations Committee. He was a member and proposing that they furnish big money to fight the Russians in Afghanistan. For which he did completely undercover, for example they would buy from Pakistan they would buy Russian weapons to arm the Afghanistans to fight the Russians because they didn’t want to use any United States weapons or American weapons. It was a very interesting time but the point is he was responsible for driving Russia out of Afghanistan and the world is a, it was the beginning of the end of the cold war.
