Texas Business Hall of Fame 29th Annual Induction Dinner
Texas Business Hall of Fame 29th Annual Induction Dinner. Welcome W. Wilson Sr., was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame on November 17, 2011 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
For his great service to our country and for his incredible mark on Texas business, we Salute Welcome Wilson, Snr as the newest member of the Texas Business Hall of Fame (applause).
Thanks, first I would like to thank those many people who over a period of 60 years by exaggerating my accomplishments, by covering up my mistakes and by over representing my successes have made this night possible for me. (Applause).
All kidding aside I am thrilled and humbled by this magnificent honor, you know I am the oldest member of this class, no surprise there; I am the exact same age of my beloved University of Houston, 84 years old. But there is a difference, the University of Houston has never been younger, the University of Houston has never been more on the move, it has never been more vibrant than it is today, I on the other hand am moving more slowly, Ross Perot if you hear me talking about happy hour, I’m talking about a nap (laughs). I never thought Colleen I would live to see the day when I would say to myself, oh to be 65 again, that was 19 years ago. I was always taught to respect my elders and now I don’t have any (laughs). I would like to ask my wonderful wife Joanne Guest Wilson, a beauty queen Barry, that I married the day I graduated from the University of Houston, I would like for her to stand along with my 5 children, Welcome Wilson Jnr., Cindy Wilson Proler, Pam Francis Wilson, Craig Wilson and Joanne Wilson Castleberry. I want the rest of the family to stand as well, the rest of the family stand up. I would also like to thank some of those people who I described in the beginning of my remarks who are here today. Deita Berry, my former partner in Dallas, Robert Nealy his good friend and partner and my great friend David Thomas of Houston, Judge Norman Lee, John Sturman, Stephan Wilson, Carl Glow and particularly and especially, the President of the University of Houston the very wonderful Dr. Renu Khatur. (Applause).
You know, I know that history is gonna treat me kindly because as the last man standing I plan to write it and the point is the older I get the better I was, thank you so much and God Bless Texas. (Applause).
